Geothermal heat is positioned to become a key component in the green transition. Geothermal energy has to be part of the forthcoming Danish energy bill. The near-term goal is to understand the value of geothermal energy in district heating, and the long-term goal is to introduce geothermal in large scale into district heating. It has the built-in properties to be a stable, sustainable baseload technology providing heat for decades to come. There are present-day barriers which need to be overcome mostly on the financing drilling, long-term value of the resource and the risks associated with large-scale production.
